Practical Assessment Update

New practical assessment dates

For Victoria-based students, please read the latest update here: Melbourne Campus Update

Thank you for your patience whilst we have put the required plans in place to navigate the ever-changing environment created by COVID-19. We are now in a position where we can recommence the delivery of practical assessments for SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness and SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness. However, there are some changes we will be required to make to ensure we create a COVID-safe environment for all staff and students involved in the assessment. These changes are summarised below. Please ensure you do not attend campus if you have symptoms or feel unwell.

  1. Class caps
Classes will be capped at a maximum of four participants. This will allow us to ensure social distancing measures can be adhered to, and resources can be appropriately shared and cleaned. Extra sessions will be provided on each campus to ensure all students can be accommodated. Please note, we cannot accept any additional participants who are not booked in due to space restrictions.
  2. Practical assessment adjustment
With fitness being a ‘hands-on’ course, it is considered a higher risk in relation to COVID-19 transmission. In order to manage this, some changes to the practical assessment will be implemented in line with Safe Work Australia and Fitness Australia guidelines. There will be changes to our gym layout and available equipment to assist in the achievement of this. Specific considerations for students being assessed include:
  3. Equipment Use
Students will be provided with designated equipment to be used throughout each practical assessment task. This may require you to adjust pre-planned programs. You will be given sufficient time and advice to help you with this process. On completion of each assessment task, students will be required to wipe down the equipment they have used before progressing the session.
  4. Coaching
Social distancing of 1.5 metres and one person per 4m2 will need to be adhered to throughout the delivery of all screening and exercise delivery. Students will need to be aware of their positioning during all client interactions, selecting exercises that do not require physical contact between client and trainer.
  5. Use of PPE
As per the previously issued guidelines, appropriate PPE (primarily face masks) will be provided where required to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and recommendations.
  6. Campus Changes
Please note rooms will have restricted numbers, and areas such as fridges, kitchens and microwaves will not be in use. Please consider this in preparing for your on-campus time.
